With the North West 200 and the famous Isle of Man TT under his belt, we catch up with Craig Neve on the season so far.
After an extremely testing start to the season for the Jackson Racing Team, we couldn’t be more proud of Craig for fighting back to take a fantastic 11th place position in the Senior race at the Isle of Man TT. Here’s how he got there.
- You started at the North West 200 – how did you get on?
The North West 200 was my first road race of 2018. The week didn’t go to plan as we really struggled with mechanical issues hampering our progress.
- What did you take away from the 200 to help prepare you for the TT?
It certainly helped me get used to the speed we needed for the TT and allowed my eyes and brain to adjust. We knew what areas we had to improve on to be competitive at the TT.
- What was your best finish on the TradeHelp Bike in the TT?
My best finish was in the first Supersport race coming 19th. I was very disappointed by this, I know we are better than that and we are looking to increase the top speed of the bike to allow us to be more competitive.
- What was your best finish in the TT and what did it mean to you after the very difficult few weeks you had?
Friday came and this was the big one the Senior TT, highlight of the fortnight.
I had a really good ride. I just kept digging in and chipping away at those in front and finished in 11th, just behind all the top riders. We needed a top 10 this year but this was the best of a bad situation after a far from perfect fortnight.
- What are your hopes for the Ulster GP and what would you like to have achieved by the end of the season?
It will be my first time at the Ulster GP circuit but it’s somewhere I need to go and be competitive at if I want to be a top road racer. I’m looking forward to getting there, improving on my times and we are always aiming for a top 15.
Dan Kneen
Our sincere condolences go to the family and friends of Dan Kneen, another of the Jackson team racers, who tragically passed away after an accident during a practice race on the Wednesday night of the TT.
Steve Mercer, a third member of the Jackson team, also sustained severe injuries during an incident the same evening. We wish him a very speedy recovery.
A just giving page has been set up for Steve to help raise money to aid him in his recovery. https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/stevemercerofficial
All the best to Craig and Jackson Racing ahead of the Ulster Grand Prix. We will be following your progress and cheering you on from the office!
